Ant Man Trailer Delivers a Small Strong Punch

I'm loving all of the super hero movies that have been coming out these past few years. X-Men, The Avengers, Thor, even Guardians of the Galaxy; its been a pleasant stroll down memory lane for this former comic book addict. I'm always on the look out for new material in the super hero genre, and I found it the other night during a screening of Mad Max: Fury Road at my local theater. As I loudly munched on butter covered popcorn, I delighted in the action packed, comedy filled Ant-Man Trailer. Personally, I never read Ant-Man and really don't know much about his world, which, for me, is pretty cool because it affords me the opportunity to delve into something completely fresh and new for my inner geek child.

Like all great things, Ant-Man was birthed from the brilliant minds of Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Larry Lieber, making his first appearance in 1962 in Tales to Astonish #35.  Ant-Man has several personas; Hank Pym, Scott Lang (who will be portrayed in the upcoming film), and Eric O'Grady, all of which, at some point in time, were entrusted with the amazing strength enhancing and size changing ability of the "Ant-Man" suit. The upcoming film focuses on Scott Lang's story, which was a smart move as Lang is intrinsically tied to the Fantastic Four and The Avengers universe. This connection, in itself, appears to be Marvel's ingenious plan to merge the story lines of all its movies of late, a fact that is sure to incite a worldwide, nerdlust bridled, geek orgasm!

The trailer itself seems on par with the older Fantastic Four films, with it showing a slight sense of humor, which is made apparent with the selection of Paul Rudd as Ant-Man. The rest of the trailer is flashing, with Ant-Man shrinking to ant size and whooping ass on the big bad baddies. Familiar faces in the trailer include Michael Douglas (Haywire) and Evangine Lilly (Lost), both of which appear to play scientists of sorts. Set to release July of this year, Ant-Man looks like it might be good for a few laughs and perhaps some nifty special effects. However, I want to see it simply because of its connection to other Marvel Universe characters; I'm waiting for that nerdlust geek orgasm.

Check out the trailer and let me know whatcha think.

  1. I have been having a hard time imagining Paul Rudd as a superhero, but it's about time I watch the movie!

  2. I still haven't watched it, which is pretty lame on my part, especially after writing this. I need to get my movie goer pants on and fucking watch some shit! I think the last movie I saw was Mad Max, and that just left me breathless and afraid that nothing can ever compare to that glorious piece of genious. I get the comment about Paul Rudd, he doesn't seem superhero-ish...gonna have to watch it.
