I love anime. I'm a huge fan of Akira, Baki the Grappler, Princess Mononoke, and Naruto (that's my short list). I'm a wee bit old school in my anime taste, but have the fortune of having a brother that is truly a connoisseur of the genre. A few months ago he invited me to his house for an anime party (wine, treats, and copious amounts of anime) to view a truly insane anime series titled Attack on Titan.
Attack on Titan is based on a manga series written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama. Set 2000 years into the future, the human race is on the verge of extinction, with the remaining population living in a massive walled city. The walls of the city protect its inhabitants from massive, human-looking creatures called Titans. The Titans envisioned in this anime essentially resemble giant naked people with distorted hungry looking mouths. These Titans are not like the ones discussed in Greek myth and also have an insatiable taste for human flesh.
The show's premise sounds simple enough, yet Attack on Titan is full of intrigue and mystery, and will leave you on the edge of your seat. Needless to say, ever since my brother introduced me to the series, I've become absolutely, irreversibly, and completely addicted to it. I can't get over how nuts the story line is, how Hajime was not only able to create a post-apocalyptic world, but was able to weave together a story bound by mythical creatures, ruled by secret political liaisons, and fueled by complete and utter violence. ITS FUCKING AMAZING (excuse my language there). What's even better is that the show is being made into a live action film, which will showcase 50 ft tall Titans! I can't wait to see how Hajime's genius will be represented on the silver screen. Check out the anime and live action trailers and let me know what you think. Cheers!
