Methane on Mars

Apparently, there are some concentrations of methane gas that occasionally build up and dissipate within Mar's thin atmosphere.  Where the methane goes and comes from is a mystery to scientists, who have been diligently monitoring methane levels using the Mars Rover for the last two years. Some scientist believe that the methane could indicate that at some point in time, there was life on the Red Planet. However, as the source has yet to be discovered, no one is comfortable saying that there is or ever was some sort of biological processes responsible for the gas.

There are some hypotheses that the methane is perculating from buried sub-surface deposits, or are the result of weird, geochemical weathering processes of Martian rocks. Whatever the source, the fact that methane exists on Mars is pretty darn exciting, especially since an absence of gas would have made for a pretty boring examination of the planet's potential for life. In other words, having some gas is better than no gas.

Since folks are putting their hypotheses out there on the source of Mar's methane, we here at Science Fiction Addiction would like to throw an idea into the hat. Three words; Subterranean, Martian, Cows!
