Still from the movie, Watership Down. |
Watership Down was written in the 1970s by British author, Richard Adams. It follows the trials and tribulations of anthropomorphised rabbit warrens in the English hillsides. This, my dears, is not a children's tale; there is death, redemption, hope, brutality and beauty, all entwined to create a world where rabbits have generals, were created by the rabbit god, Firth and have a predestined death guided by the rabbit equivalent of the Grim Reaper. The art that is associated with Watership Down is truly a beautiful thing, somewhat eerie and haunting, but always enjoyable. Here are just a few pieces that really convey Richard Adams world of rabbits!
