Godzilla is coming! No, I really mean it, well at least on film. May 16th is the big day for this film and my mother can hardly wait. She's a big fan of giant monsters wrecking havoc on humankind and so she's pretty eager to see what Godzilla has to offer. She's hoping, like many of us giant monster enthusiasts, that she'll actually get to see Godzilla's face and bodily awesomeness, and that directors won't try to feed the audience a whole bunch of smoke and mirrors cinematography like they did with
Cloverfield (which I enjoyed). The movie trailer shows a little of Godzilla's outline in smoke and dust, which kind of obscures the lizards noggin. It does seem like the director (Gareth Edwards of
Monsters) is taking the "I'm a giant ass dragon thingy" approach in his interpretation of what Godzilla looks like. That got me to thinking about all the vintage images of Godzilla and all I can say is thank goodness for CGI! Check out the following images to see just how far we've come to make Godzilla look film worthy:

Close-up of 1956 Godzilla. Is this a rodent or a really messed up Oscar the Grouch? |

Tearing down buildings is hard work. Really, it is. Godzilla of 1984. |

Looking better, way better than the 1956 ancestor. |

2014's Godzilla in the dust of its destruction. Hopefully he wont be too bashful for game day. |
