Katniss, Katniss is the Baddest

I just watched the latest installment of the Hunger Games and I have to say that it did not disappoint! It's been a long time since I've seen a female play a role where the character doesn't depend on her sexiness to carry a film. Katniss Everdeen is STRONG and could care less about what clothes she's wearing or if she makes a funny face while exerting herself with every twang of her bow. I like her. She's not sweet or overbearing. Jennifer Lawrence, as Katniss, does an excellent job of portraying a breadwinner, a hunter, a true heroine that loves her family and is almost violently protective of those she cares about. I like the fact that even though romantic love plays a role in this film, it's never overwhelming and cliche. It almost plays second fiddle to the real story which is how and why revolutionaries are made. That's why I wanted to give a shout out to this character, a character that shows girls and women, nerds and non-nerds a fresh take on what it means to be a heroine.
