Space Operas Needed!

You know what I really want? I want a science fiction movie to be so epic, so damn incredible that I get goose bumps just listening to the theme music. Like the first time I watched the original Star Wars and experienced the magnificent humming and drumming intro music; I knew immediately that I was in for an absolute life changing experience. Or take the alien series where the raw grittiness of the characters and the profuse "I'm scared, but I am going to kick some ass" sweat globules present on Sigourney Weaver's face let me know that Ridley Scott had created something terrifying yet beautiful. I need more of this in my cinematic life, a space opera of sorts where I can give in to pure nerd lust! I am hoping that the next rash of science fiction films that are supposed to be released in the next few years will capture the intrinsic essence of science fiction wanderlust that has shaped my appreciation for the genre. Even though the following films seem to have a limited amount of scenes taking place in outer space, hopefully they won't disappoint:

Matt Damon in Elysium.
1). Elysium: Written and directed by Neil Blomkamp, this film looks at social hierarchy between the wealthy and the poor in a futuristic ruined Earth where the rich inhabit a beautiful space station while their counterparts try to survive Earth's deteriorated landscape.

2). After Earth: Starring Will Smith and son Jaden Smith, After Earth is slated for release on June 7th of this year. Directed by M. Night Shylaman, this film follows the story of a father and son who crash land on a hostile, abandoned Earth 1000 years post a massive exodus by humankind for extra planetary colonization.

3). Oblivion: starring Tom Cruise and set in the year 2073, Earth has been devastated by alien invasion and humanity is still trying to pick up the pieces. However, things aren't as they appear.
